8-Day Uganda Birding and Wildlife Safari

After an early morning breakfast at your hotel in Entebbe, you will be picked up by our company representative who will be your driver guide who will brief you about your trip and then embark on your transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park, which is about 450 kilometres west of Kampala. We make stopovers at the equator for the water experiment, toilet break, picture taking and crafts shopping, then continue to Mbarara for lunch and later proceed on thorough the beautiful evergreen mountainous country-side, referred to as the “Little Switzerland of Africa”, arriving at Bwindi in the evening and check-in to the service of  our accommodation for dinner and overnight

After an early morning breakfast, with our packed lunch, we go to the Park offices for the briefing by 8:00am and later start the trekking entering the forest, the natural habitat of the gorillas. Your gorilla trekking adventure has just begun. It may take 3-8 hours under muddy and strenuous conditions, sometimes with rain overhead. But all these conditions cease to be a challenge the moment you come face to face with the amazing mountain gorilla. The feeling is one unlike any other felt before. Depending on the time you return from this experience you will return to your lodge for some rest and in the evening you can choose to go for an optional Batwa cultural experience visit the communities of these people and later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, with our packed lunch, we check out and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We enter the park through the Ishasha sector famous for the tree climbing lions, we do a mini game drive as we proceed on to the northern sector of the park. Later in the afternoon we go for the boat cruise on Kazinga channel for yet another spectacular Bird watching and wildlife viewing at a close range. Then later we check in to the service of our accommodation, dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, we will have a morning game drive, towards the Kasenyi plains in search for wildlife that may include; the Uganda Kob, Elephants, Buffaloes, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Wathogs, Giant Forest Hogs, Jackals, Lions and Leopards among others. We later transfer to Kibale national park, driving along the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains, with en-route lunch. Arriving at Kibale in the evening and check in to the service of our accommodation, dinner and overnight.

Start the day with some sensational chimpanzee tracking in the heart of the Kibale Forest. The reserve boasts the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa, providing sightings of wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys and the black-and-white colobus monkeys on your guided nature walk. After a hearty lunch, transfer to Bigodi to visit a local community initiative - the Bigodi Wetland Walk. Be on the lookout for primates and the rare great blue turaco, one of the 138 bird species found in the swamp area.

Near Kibale Forest you will find many crater lakes which you see as we drive near the Park The top of the World Hike is a popular activity near Kibale Forest – a three-hour or longer guided walk covering three crater lakes, villages, tea-plantations and a view from the top of the world that takes in 3 crater lakes and the Rwenzori Mountains with the landscape below.

This hike is three hours in length and is taken with guides who can explain Village life – the legends of the crater lakes, the tea and vanilla plantations all along the way. Retire at your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

After an early morning breakfast we go for a whole day birding along the Kirumya trail, in this Forest which is the Eastern limit  to some of the Guinea/Congo biome species. Some of the specialties that we expect to encounter here include;  the Red-billed Dwarf, Black-casqued Wattled, Black-dwarf, Piping, White-thighed and White-crested Hornbill, African piculet, Forest Robin,  Zenker’s Honeyguide, Black-throated Coucal, Red-rumped Tinkerbird, Rufous-sided broadbill, Nkurengu rail, Shining-blue, White-bellied, Chocolate-backed, African Dwarf and  African Pygmy Kingfisher, African Emarald, Dusky Long-tailed, Barred Long-tailed, Yellow-throated and African Cuckoo, White-naped and Western Bronze-naped Pigeon, Nahan’s and Forest Francolin, Long-tailed Hawk, Chestnut-flanked Goshawk, Rufous-breasted and Red-thighed Sparrowhawk, Hartlaub’s Duck, Brown-chested and Fire-crested Alethe, Woodhouse’s Antpecker, Red-bellied and Blue-billed Malimbe, Swamp Palm Bulbul, Forest Scrub-robin, Green-tailed Bristlebill, Leaf-love, Pale-fronted and Chestnut-breasted Negrofinches, Black-winged Oriole, Spot-breasted and African Green Ibis among others. We come back to our lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, with our packed lunch, we check out and start birding towards Kampala, with birding stopovers at Amabere Caves for site seeing. We later drive on to Kampala, with more stopovers at Mubende and Mityana. Arriving at Kampala in the evening and you will be dropped at your place of accommodation.
